The arsenal of qualified phlebologists includes both conservative and surgical methods. If a patient seeks help at our St. Paraskeva Medical Centre in Lviv with advanced varicose veins or in case of complications, surgical phlebology is most often required. Such methods are also recommended when the previously proposed drug therapy fails or is ineffective.

Our phlebologist surgeon Yurii Baran will determine the stage of the disease, carry out the necessary diagnostics and offer an effective treatment method, including modern minimally invasive laser coagulation, miniphlebectomy and/or sclerotherapy. You can make an appointment online or by phone.

When should I visit our phlebologist?

It is recommended to make an appointment with a specialised doctor of our Medical Centre without delay if you notice:

  • pain, swelling, occurrence of varicose veins of the lower extremities;
  • discolouration of the skin of the legs;
  • bruises and haematomas;
  • the so-called "intermittent claudication", i.e., limitation of walking distance during active walking, which progresses;
  • occurrence of trophic skin disorders (skin ulcers).

What methods of surgical phlebology do we use?

At St. Paraskeva Medical Centre in Lviv, we use advanced methods of surgical treatment of venous pathologies. Depending on the severity, indications and contraindications for a particular patient, both minimally invasive operations and classical types of interventions can be used.

Minimally invasive methods of operative phlebology

  1. Sclerotherapy is a relatively young treatment technique in which special solutions are injected into the affected vein, causing the vessel walls to stick together and subsequently resorb. Sclerotherapy as a standalone procedure can be used to treat so-called spider veins and superficial reticular varicose veins (mesh), as well as as part of complex surgical interventions for more severe vein pathologies.
  2. Laser endovenous coagulation is a minimally invasive method in which an optical fiber laser is inserted into the affected vein. The dilated vessel is removed as a result of thermal action. The procedure is performed under ultrasound control, allows you to eliminate superficial varicose veins, and in case of advanced venous pathologies, it is combined with classical types of intervention - mini phlebectomy and/or cross-sectional surgery.
  3. Miniphlebectomy is a method of surgical phlebology in which pathological veins are removed through mini-incisions. The procedure takes little time and is most often performed under local anaesthesia. The method is effective in the treatment of the initial stages of varicose veins - to eliminate superficial veins. Miniphlebectomy can be combined with laser coagulation.

Classical vascular surgery

Our phlebologist surgeon Yurii Baran has 23 years of practical experience in operative phlebology and performs the following types of traditional surgical interventions for venous pathologies:

  1. Phlebectomy is a classic open surgery for varicose veins, which involves the removal of affected vessels through incisions in the skin. It is used for varicose veins of various stages and can be combined with other surgical methods, including minimally invasive ones.
  2. Crossectomy is a surgical operation, the essence of which is to cross the connecting veins that feed the pathological vessel with the subsequent removal of the dilated segment. Crossectomy is performed both as an independent operation and in combination with laser coagulation and miniphlebectomy.
