Cervarix is a vaccine that is used to prevent the development of diseases caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 and 18. This virus can cause precancerous conditions of the cervix, vulva, and vagina, and its untimely detection and treatment leads to cervical cancer.
Important! St. Paraskeva Medical Center offers only those vaccines that have been prequalified by WHO and certified by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for their use in Ukraine.
Cervarix is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Biologics S.A. in Rixensart, Belgium.
Advantages:
- The main advantage of the Cervarix vaccine is that its development is based on the production of virus-like particles that mimic the human papillomavirus, but do not contain genetic material (DNA) that could cause the disease. Therefore, this vaccine is not able to infect a person.
- A long period of immunization, which is about 10 years.
- The possibility of vaccination for girls from 9 years of age and women without age restrictions.
Preparation
Before vaccination, the patient must undergo a complete blood count (CBC) and a complete urine analysis (CUA) for examination. After all, any deviation from the norm may indicate an inflammatory process in the body. It should be remembered that vaccination is possible only if the patient is absolutely healthy.
The list of tests includes: general blood test and general urine test. Blood is taken for analysis in the morning, on an empty stomach. To perform urine analysis, it is necessary to take it in the morning, immediately after sleep.
Vaccination
In the St. Paraskeva Medical Center, this procedure begins with a preliminary consultation with a general practitioner, where the patient will be able to get all the necessary information about the Cervarix vaccine, the specifics of its implementation and possible adverse reactions of the body. In addition, a highly qualified specialist of St. Paraskeva Medical Center conducts an initial examination of the patient, which includes an examination of the mucous membranes of the nose and mouth. The doctor also assesses the general condition of the patient and interprets the results of blood and urine tests. If at the time of examination the patient has no contraindications to vaccination, he/she is sent to the manipulation room. The vaccination itself begins with the treatment of the area to be vaccinated with an antiseptic. After that, the nurse, in accordance with all the rules and regulations for the use of the vaccine, injects the active substance into the deltoid muscle of the shoulder. Upon completion of the manipulation, a disposable plaster is applied to the puncture site, and the patient is under the supervision of medical staff for 30 minutes. If the patient does not experience any allergic reactions to the vaccine or its components during the specified time, he/she returns to the daily rhythm of life.
It is important to remember that during the first 2-3 days there may be adverse reactions to the vaccine, which the patient will be informed about by our specialist during the consultation. But in case of atypical reactions of the body, the patient must inform his doctor about them for further recommendations.
