Endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that includes the most modern methods of examination, helps to detect any changes in the digestive system and choose the right tactics in the treatment of the patient.
Endoscopic method of examination of the stomach and intestines is prescribed to the patient for diagnosis and control of the disease. One of the most effective ways to combat colorectal cancer is preventive colonoscopy after reaching the age of 50 or as prescribed by a doctor if a close relative has a history of this disease.
Modern endoscopy at St. Paraskeva Medical Center allows for effective and minimally invasive treatment.
Modern equipment
The Endoscopy Department of St. Paraskeva Medical Center is equipped with the latest generation of endoscopic video systems FUJIFILM ELUXEO 7000 and a sufficient number of endoscopes of the latest Eluxeo 700 series. This equipment has the most advanced capabilities of enhancement and differentiation of endoscopic images (MULTI LIGHT™ TECHNOLOGY) - high-performance 4-LED lighting (specially expertly developed ideal composition of LEDs), modes of image enhancement / deepening LCI (Linked Color Imaging) and BLI (Blue Light Imaging) with visualization of microvascular pattern and visualization of different layers of the mucous membrane, optical magnification of 135 times - Zoom Optical Magnification. The devices are thinner, colonoscopes have the ability to change the rigidity in order to easily overcome pronounced intestinal twists.
Examination of children
Children's endoscope with a thickness of 5.8 mm is suitable for diagnosing children from birth. Therapeutic gastroscopes are designed for endoscopic interventions, equipped with a 3.8 mm instrument channel, and have a central flushing function. All these possibilities allow to make endoscopic examinations and interventions more comfortable and safer for patients, to increase the percentage of detection of the smallest pathology, first of all - precancerous changes and early forms of cancer.
Painless examination and minimally invasive treatment
The examination is performed under local or general anesthesia (at the request of the patient and according to indications) for patients of any age.
Possibilities of endoscopic diagnostics and minimally invasive endoscopic treatment.
In the Medical Center of St. Paraskeva we carry out:
- endoscopic bleeding control from varicose veins of the esophagus, stomach, ulcers and other lesions of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum;
- endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of neoplasms;
- argon-plasma ablation of pathologically altered mucosal areas;
- balloon dilation of benign luminal structures;
- removal of a foreign body from the lumen;
- palliative treatment of stenosing or bleeding tumors (recanalization, stenting, etc.); marking of tumor location;
- removal of polyps of different sizes (0.1-5 cm), directly during diagnostic EGD or colonoscopy;
- performing complex endoscopic interventions - safe removal (in a single unit) of large flat and volumetric neoplasms of all parts of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as early cancerous lesions - using the technique of endoscopic submucosal dissection ESD (Endoscopic submucosal dissection), using various types of endoscopic diathermy knives;
- synchronously (during EGDS) to perform endoscopic intragastric and intraesophageal pH-metry (according to the clinical task);
- express gastric pH-metry without gastroscopy (within 10-15 minutes);
- short-term intragastric pH-metry (within 2-3 hours);
- daily pH-metry (for 24 hours or more): esophagus, stomach (for individual maximum); - intragastric acidity of the stomach for acid neutralization and duodeno-gastric reflux;
- intraduodenal pH monitoring for acid neutralization;
- endosonography;
- colonoscopy;
- bronchoscopy;
- esophagogastroduodenoscopy;
- sigmoscopy.
Modern form of documentation
All examinations are documented with a series of high-quality images and, if necessary, a video recording, which can be recorded on a disc or sent to the patient by e-mail.
Safe for the patient
Minimally invasive endoscopic interventions and procedures are performed using disposable (individual for each patient) endoscopic instruments - loops, forceps, injectors.
Processing of endoscopes is automated, carried out by washing and high level disinfection by automatic washing and disinfecting machines. The full cycle of endoscope processing is strictly observed: pre-cleaning, leak testing, final cleaning and rinsing, automated machine disinfection, final automated rinsing, drying, storage. All endoscopes without exception undergo a full cycle of high-level disinfection lasting 60 minutes. During disinfection, the method of pre-filtration and ultraviolet sterilization of water for washing the endoscope, a self-disinfection system, and highly effective disinfectant solutions are used. The disinfection process is documented by an automatic machine with a built-in printer and archived in the medical records of each patient.
Automated machine processing of endoscopes qualitatively provides a full cycle of high-level disinfection, excluding the so-called "human factor". Endoscopes are processed by specially appointed and trained personnel. Clean disinfected endoscopes and sterile medical instruments are stored in a special sealed cabinet with ultraviolet light, which ensures the sterility of the equipment.
Our experience with international experts
The II Symposium with international participation "Therapeutic endoscopy of the digestive tract - current trends" was successfully held at the St. Paraskeva Medical Center. The symposium was attended by invited experts from Poland: Ph.D. Michal Spychalski - Head of the Center for Therapeutic and Bariatric Endoscopy in Brzeziny, also the head of the training center for therapeutic endoscopy in Europe; Ph. D. Tomasz Marek - Coordinator of the Endoscopy Department of the University Clinical Center, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Hakan Bulut and Serguei Seleznev, Business Development and Medical Endoscopic Systems Managers of FUJIFILM European Office, doctors from different cities of Ukraine (Kyiv, Chernivtsi, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi, Rivne, Odesa, Lutsk). Together with Polish colleagues, we have jointly performed surgery on six patients with complex pathology, which is very difficult to treat with classical methods: two patients underwent endoscopic oral esophageal myotomy - tunnel surgery on the esophagus, which cures achalasia, one patient underwent the next stage of treatment of critical benign esophageal narrowing by balloon dilation and installation of a temporary stent, one patient had a benign gastric tumor 4.0x5.0x9.0 cm in size removed, preserving the stomach intact, two patients had areas of mucosa in Barrett's esophagus with precancerous changes removed. All surgical interventions were successful, and patients were discharged for outpatient treatment.
