Multislice computed tomography of the temporal bone is a technique for diagnosing pathology of the middle ear, inner ear and vestibular apparatus by exposure to X-rays.

Indications and contraindications

MSCT of the ear is prescribed for strict indications - hearing loss, otitis media, suspected tumor, the presence of exudate in the middle ear cavity and other pathologies.

Usually, the doctor aims to determine the etiology of hearing impairment, visualize the plane of fracture and displacement of bones in injuries, identify inflammatory and infectious foci, tumor formations. The technique is also used to monitor the course of the disease and evaluate the treatment performed.

A relative contraindication for the study is pregnancy. In this case, an MRI of the temporal bone is performed.

Preparation

Results

To conduct the study, the patient lies down on the tomograph table. The table is placed in the center of the machine. The obtained data is converted into multi-plane thin sections, which are processed and analyzed by a radiologist.
