CT of the head

Multispiral computed tomography for the head can be performed with or without contrast. Contrast enhancement is necessary for clearer visualization of soft tissues. Thanks to this substance, the blood vessels of the brain are especially clearly visible. This helps identify tumors, inflammations, and hematomas.

MSCT of the brain is a diagnostic study that can detect various diseases of the gray and white matter, as well as disorders of the surrounding tissues, meninges and blood vessels. After it, a series of black and white images are made, which present layer-by-layer images of the organ and, if necessary, targeted images of "problem" areas.

When is MSCT of the head appointed?

• Acute cerebrovascular accident, differential diagnosis of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, detection of complications.
• Diagnostics of venous thrombosis, subdural, epidural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage.
• Diagnostics of purulent meningitis and its complications.
• Headache accompanied by Focal neurological symptoms.
• Traumatic brain injury, accompanied by loss of consciousness, neurological symptoms, intracranial hypertension, epileptic seizure, vomiting; there is a penetrating wound, open or depressed fracture of the skull bones, symptoms of skull base fracture.
• Sudden causeless impairment of vision, hearing, paranasal sinuses and other symptoms that indicate a pathology of the sensory organs.
• Hydrocephalus.
• Pathology of the maxillary system.
• Preparation for surgery, monitoring of the condition after operations.

Contraindications

• pregnancy (exception - for vital signs);
• the large weight of the patient (more than 125 kg) is due to the limitations of the equipment's capabilities.

Examination and its results

You do not need to prepare for the examination without contrast. In special cases, your doctor will warn you about the preparation. The examination takes 5-10 minutes. The computer scans the brain layer by layer. In the case of intracranial pathology, the normal density of brain tissue changes.

The normal density and anatomy of the brain is thoroughly known to the smallest detail by a radiologist, who will analyze the study and issue his conclusion. You will receive the conclusion and photo on the day of the examination at the reception of the St. Paraskeva Medical Center in Lviv.
