When is ultrasound diagnostics (ultrasound) of the scrotum necessary?
In case of painful symptoms, an ultrasound of the scrotum should be done as soon as possible. The main reasons for the complaint are:
- the appearance of discomfort or pain (pain, swelling in the testicles, perineum, lower abdomen, radiating to the groin area);
- change in the shape of the scrotum (swelling or induration in the testicles, reduction or increase in testicular size, etc.);
- changes in the color or texture of the skin of the scrotum (cyanosis, the appearance of a vascular mesh);
- the presence of enlarged lymph nodes in the groin areas;
- traumatic damage to the scrotal organs;
- presence of blood in the ejaculate (hemospermia);
- deviations in spermogram results;
- weak penile erection;
- suspected delay in puberty;
- undescended testicle in the scrotum (cryptorchidism), etc.

Is preliminary preparation before scrotal ultrasound necessary?
There is no special preparation before the planned diagnostics. Immediately on the day of the examination, the patient is recommended to carry out thorough genital hygiene.
How is the scrotal ultrasound performed?
At the St. Paraskeva Medical Center, such an examination is performed by an ultrasound diagnostician.
In the ultrasound room, the patient must remove all clothes below the waist and lie on the examination table (on the back or on the side), according to the doctor's recommendations. A small amount of gel is applied to the scrotal skin (for better contact with the sensor). In some cases, the ultrasound doctor may recommend to continue the examination of the scrotum with Doppler or elastography, which are available at St. Paraskeva Medical Center.
The duration of ultrasound is approximately 15-20 minutes.
Upon completion of the diagnosis, the patient gets dressed and waits for the results of the examination (description and images).
