When should you undergo prostate ultrasound?
Symptoms to pay attention to and undergo examination:
- discomfort and pain in the perineum, lower abdomen;
- dysuric disorders (frequent, painful, nocturnal urination);
- urine with blood admixtures;
- impaired potency, infertility;
- deviations from the norm in laboratory tests (urinalysis, spermogram).
Ultrasound examination is recommended for prevention purposes if there are cases of prostate diseases in the family, as well as after 50 years of age.
How is the prostate ultrasound performed?
Prostate ultrasonography preparation: the main requirement is a diet for 1-3 days and a full bladder during the examination (drink 2-3 glasses of warm water an hour before the examination and refrain from urinating). The diet consists of avoiding foods and drinks that cause bloating (e.g. fast food, yeast pastries, grapes, apples, onions, mushrooms, legumes, cabbage, milk and dairy products, alcohol, carbonated drinks, etc.) If necessary, you can take a drug for flatulence.
How to perform ultrasound of the prostate: during transabdominal examination, the patient lies on his/her back, a special gel is applied to the lower abdomen, and an ultrasound probe is used to perform diagnostics. The examination does not cause pain or discomfort, lasts up to 20 minutes.
