When is it better to do an ultrasound of the mammary glands?
The informative value of the survey does not depend on the phase of the cycle. If a woman has a high sensitivity of the glands, ultrasound is recommended to be performed in the first phase of the menstrual cycle (5-12 days).
The difference between ultrasound and mammography
Both examinations are informative and, if necessary, can complement each other for high-quality diagnostics:
- ultrasound is a non-radiation examination, the main method of diagnosing mammary glands before 40 years, as well as after 40 with high breast density (as an auxiliary method of examination), there are no contraindications;
- mammography is an X-ray examination that is necessary for women after 40 years of age, as a basic one (according to indications, it is performed for pregnant women and during lactation). It is prescribed for prevention purposes, if a pathology is suspected (which can be detected thanks to this method), to control the disease.
Every woman should undergo the examination method (breast ultrasound or mammography) every year for the early detection of the disease and the choice of successful treatment tactics.
