Ultrasound of the fetus during pregnancy

Fetal ultrasound in the first trimester of pregnancy The first ultrasound during pregnancy is a mandatory examination, which is included in the complex of screening studies. Thanks to ultrasound examination in the first three months of pregnancy, you can check how the fetus is developing, whether it has abnormalities or genetic pathologies.

Services

  • Ultrasound examination of the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy
  • Ultrasound examination of the fetus in the second trimester of pregnancy with dopplerography of fetal vessels
  • Ultrasound examination of the fetus in the third trimester of pregnancy with dopplerography of fetal vessels

Advantages

  • Ultrasound is an absolutely harmless diagnostic method for both the fetus and the pregnant woman.
  • The examination takes up to 30 minutes.
  • Ultrasound can be performed without prior special training.
  • Accuracy of results due to prenatal screening under the programs "Astraia", "Prisca".

Preparation

  • For 2-3 days before the examination, it is recommended to refrain from consuming foods that can cause gas formation: raw vegetables and fruits, legumes, lactic acid products, etc.
  • Before starting an ultrasound, your doctor may recommend filling your bladder for better visualization of the uterus and fetus.

Examination

The patient takes off his outer clothing to the waist and lies on his back on a special couch for ultrasound diagnostics. The duration is from 20 to 30 minutes. The ultrasound doctor applies the gel to the patient's skin and applies a sensor to his body. With the help of a sensor and a modern device, ultrasound waves are converted into images, which the doctor comments during the examination and, at the request of the patient, can demonstrate them. Upon completion of the examination, the gel is wiped off with a disposable paper towel. During the examination, the doctor takes a series of pictures, which will later be attached to the diagnostic report.

Diagnostics

Ultrasound during pregnancy is carried out routinely according to the calendar, between the 12th and 14th weeks of pregnancy, 24th and 26th weeks, as well as 30th-32nd weeks of pregnancy, provided that there are no remarks.

The first (screening) examination during pregnancy is carried out on the 6th-7th week from the beginning of fertilization, because at this stage ultrasound can detect pregnancy.

When the pregnancy is confirmed, the doctor opens an outpatient card of the pregnant woman, where he further enters all the records of examinations and tests.

The gynecologist at St. Paraskeva Medical Center recommends a routine ultrasound between the 12th and 14th weeks of pregnancy (first trimester). It is then that you can check how the fetus develops, the absence of pathologies and the condition of the amniotic fluid.

At the St. Paraskeva Medical Center, a pregnant woman will be able to learn about the state of fetal development (the size of the neural tube and the bridge of the nose), hear the heartbeat of the unborn child and learn about its growth by comparing tests and ultrasound in the first trimester of pregnancy thanks to the Astraia program.

If the fetus develops normally, then the next ultrasound examination is prescribed between the 24th and 26th weeks of pregnancy (II trimester), which will determine the sex of the unborn child and monitor its development and the condition of the umbilical cord.

In the third trimester, between the 32nd and 34th weeks of pregnancy, when the baby is noticeably gaining weight, ultrasound is performed to determine the state of fetal development, the condition of amniotic fluid and placenta, which will determine whether a woman will be able to give birth on her own or whether a cesarean section is necessary.

Contraindications

There are no contraindications to ultrasound examination at any stage of pregnancy.
