What is ductography?
Ductography-examination of the breast duct using contrast, is a type of mammographic examination. Thanks to this examination, the doctor can get a clear image of the structure and location of the ducts. The use of the study reduces the percentage of clinical forms of cancer and makes it possible to achieve a full recovery of a woman.
When is it worth making a ductography?
The reason to consult a doctor and undergo an examination is the detection of discharge (forced or unauthorized) from one duct of the breast on underwear or during a self-examination. Discharge, which can be clear, green, red, brown (with or without smell), is given for cytological examination. Based on the results, the doctor may recommend that you undergo an examination. Ductography reveals intraductal papillomas, hyperplasia, and neoplasms.

Preparing for ductography
Ductography of the mammary glands does not require special preparation. It is recommended to be examined immediately after menstrual periods and before the 12th day of the cycle (to avoid high sensitivity of the glands).
Procedure for conducting
Ductography involves the targeted introduction of contrast (a gadolinium-based compound) by a mammologist into the milk duct. The examination does not cause pain, there may be a slight feeling of discomfort. Contrast is quickly and easily inserted into the duct, easily and removed. The duration of the examination with a description of the results takes up to 30 minutes.
Features of ductography
Ductography is prescribed only by a doctor, and examination is an additional diagnostic method. A contraindication is an allergic reaction to iodine (before the examination, a woman must be asked about this).
